Ward twins lead Abington High football past Rockland
ROCKLAND -- The Abington High football team consistently receives some a-Ward winning performances from its senior twin duo of Liam and Brendan Ward. And they're up for nomination again as the duo dominated on both sides of the ball to help the Green Wave pull away in the fourth quarter for a 18-7 road win at Rockland on Friday, Oct. 23. “Them two being on the field (makes us) very competitive,” said quarterback Jack Reilly. Abington (5-2) trailed for just under 33 minutes of the game until Jack Reilly ran for a 5-yard touchdown with just 5:23 remaining to give Abington a 12-7 lead. Rockland (3-4) found itself in a deficit for the first time all night and started to mount a drive to regain the lead. After a few strong runs from quarterback Dustin Ayer and senior running back Marvelous Pleasant, Rockland found itself inside Abington's 40-yard line with under three minutes remaining. However, a 5-yard loss set up a third-and-14 with the clock running. As the clock continued to tick, Ayer tried to roll out to his right and make a play, but his pass fell right into the hands of Liam Ward, who took the pick 62

You won't believe this South Shore football star's eye-popping stat line
SCITUATE — The marching band piped up to serenade the Scituate High football team in victory formation. Somehow Grayson Foley still had energy to bop his head to the melody as the snap was taken. Postgame, the senior running back and hybrid safety looked down, laughed and said his legs were "a little sore" after logging 38 carries for 347 yards and six touchdowns, and snagging three interceptions on defense, in a 42-28 win over previously-unbeaten North Quincy on Friday, Oct. 23. "I kept saying, 'Are you good? Come on out,' head coach Herb Devine said. "He said, 'Nope. I'm not coming out. I'm good, Coach." Devine, who previously dubbed Foley as "the best player" he's seen in his nearly 20 years coaching at Scituate, said he wasn't aware of the senior's tally of carries, adding it may be the highest by a Scituate (7-0) player in his tenure. Foley became the program's all-time leading rusher on Oct. 9. "The only thing you talk about all week (in practice) is Grayson Foley, Grayson Foley and Grayson Foley," said North Quincy coach Greg Sommers. "No matter what you do to game-plan for him, he's still going to find the end zone.

Keigan Holte, Aidan Nicholson power Marshfield football past Hingham
MARSHFIELD — Heavyweight fights rarely end after the first punch. But even for the best boxers, an early knockdown makes recovery difficult. So when the Marshfield High football team's first possession on Friday, Oct. 23, ended with Hingham’s Henry Weibley blocking a Ram punt at their 30 yard-line, scooping it up and running it back for a touchdown, you had to wonder how quickly the Rams could pick themselves up off the canvas. But Marshfield’s hurry-up offense — and their steely senior class — is designed to counterpunch. The Rams responded with 41 unanswered points and beat the Harbormen 44-21 on their Senior Night to remain atop the Patriot League Keenan Division. Marshfield (5-1, 3-0 Keenan) ran its no-huddle offense at a pace Hingham (4-3, 2-2 Keenan) never matched, and senior linebacker Keigan Holte snatched two momentum-shifting interceptions to keep the Harbormen from finding a foothold. The turning point came early. Down 7-0, Marshfield lost a fumble when Hingham's Jake Araujo stripped Cole Hannigan on a sweep, and senior linebacker Cole Palek recovered near the Hingham 25. The tide seemed to be turning in Harbormen's favor. But a few plays later, Holte made a diving interception at the Hingham 45.
