MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. — Two men were rescued by firefighters Tuesday afternoon from the White River south of Waverly.

Mike Pruitt, the deputy fire chief at the Bargersville Fire Department, said two individuals who were kayaking on the white river required assistance after encountering a log jam that led to their kayaks becoming overturned.

The kayakers were not injured during the incident and managed to bring themselves to safety on a nearby sandbar where they waited for BFD and several other agencies to arrive via boat, with the report coming in around 4:16 p.m. Tuesday.

“The river has been in flood stage for several days which has created unacceptable conditions for recreational activities. The boys are very lucky to be alive,” said Pruitt.

The Morgan County Water Rescue Task Force and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources also assisted with the rescue.
