CA rain totals from recent storm varied widely. How much did your city get?
Skies were clearing Friday after the first widespread rain across the Golden State, with several inches falling in locations from Southern California north to the Oregon border. Across the Central Valley, rainfall totals between a tenth of an inch and an inch were widespread during the storm, which started Tuesday evening and concluded Friday morning, with some notable differences from place to place. Sacramento International Airport officially recorded 0.45 inches, while 0.24 inches was measured at the Sacramento Executive Airport. Further south, some of the highest totals in the valley were near Merced, which officially recorded 1.52 inches in the storm. Nearby Fresno and Modesto recorded 0.21 inches and 0.27 inches respectively, with much higher amounts in the nearby foothills. It was Southern California that really put up the big numbers. One of the highest rain totals statewide was recorded in Morro Bay near San Luis Obispo, with a staggering 3.69 inches. San Luis Obispo itself recorded 1.14 inches, showing that heavy rain can be quite localized. Looking ahead: more rain likely into early November The wet season is only expected to pick up from here. Rain to take welcome weekend break in Sacramento. Here's how long it could last
After two days of on-and-off showers that Central California has not seen months, the rain is coming to a close as of Friday morning. Precipitation was intense across the state. As of late Thursday morning, radar-estimated rainfall totaled more than half an inch in parts of the San Joaquin Valley and a quarter inch in the Sacramento Valley. By Friday morning, those totals will be slightly higher. The official Sacramento International Airport total so far is 0.34 inches, which is notably higher than the downtown Sacramento estimate, and would make it the wettest two-day stretch for Sacramento since May 4-5. Meanwhile, Fresno officially recorded at 0.2 inches at the airport, the wettest two-day stretch since April 25-26. The biggest rain totals came in Southern California and on the Central Coast. Thanks to a line of intense thunderstorms late Wednesday and into Thursday morning, Santa Barbara received more than two inches, with nearby San Luis Obispo clocking in about an inch and a half — its wettest days since Feb. 16-17. It’s a reminder that the wet season is at our doorstep, and it won’t be long before its taking a giant step into our living room. El Niño is expected
