Southern Aroostook boys basketball star headed to Husson

Southern Aroostook Community School’s star shooting guard Dylan Burpee has committed to play for Husson University next fall.

The Dyer Brook native was a 1,000-point scorer, two-time state champion and 2023 Class D tournament MVP as a Warrior, and will join an Eagles squad coming off its eighth North Atlantic Conference title, and third NAC tournament championship in five years.

Husson head coach Warren Caruso first reached out to Burpee after catching wind of his 36-point performance in the 2023 Class D state championship game versus Forest Hills.

“Dylan had an incredible high school career, and is a great shooter [with] size that translates well to the college game,” Caruso said. “Dylan is a well-rounded student athlete with a very good skill set, and is a great addition to the Husson community.”

This season, the 6-foot-4 Burpee averaged 27 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and four steals per game, and guided the Warriors to the regional semifinals as the team’s lone senior.

Burpee was named to the BDN all-tournament team every year since the pandemic, was a two-time BDN All-Maine honorable mention, was a Maine McDonald’s All-Star Game MVP, and was a Mr. Maine Basketball semifinalist.

Burpee was also a member of Southern Aroostook’s National Honor Society, and worked at the Southern Aroostook youth basketball camps during the summer.

“I’m proud of being able to play for my town, and make an impact on and off the court,” Burpee said. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing at the next level and getting better.”

At Husson, Burpee plans on studying business and sports management, and joins Jayson Higgins from Sunset Mountain High School in Peoria, AZ and Conor Heald from Cardinal Mooney High School in Saratoga, FLA in this year’s recruiting class.
