EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine (WABI) - East Millinocket has a new paw-trol officer. Derby just finished his first phase of K-9 training. After 13 weeks of training, he is now a member of the East Millinocket Police Department. Derby is set to complete his training early next year.
Thunderbirds Continue Fundraising Efforts in 2023-24
On October 11th, the Springfield Thunderbirds released the findings of a comprehensive economic impact study conducted by the UMASS Donahue Institute. One of the things discussed in the study was the fact over $300,000 have been contributed to organizations and charitable events throughout the area since the inception of the T-Birds foundation in 2018.

High School Basketball Season Tips off Dec. 8
The 2023\2024 high school basketball season officially opens on Dec. 8. That is the date that high schools are eligible to play their first countable games. For the most part, girls' teams kick things off with their season openers on Dec. 8. The Jonesport-Beals Royalettes travel to Machias for a matchup with the Lady Bulldogs. Calais journeys up to Lincoln to face Mattanawcook Academy, and Woodland plays the Narraguagus Lady Knights in Harrington.

Portalatin finishes seventh at Millinocket Half-Marathon
MILLINOCKET — Rico Portalatin, 52 of Milo, finished seventh at the 2023 Millinocket Half-Marathon on Saturday, Dec. 2. Portalatin covered the 13.1 miles in a time of 1 hour, 19 minutes, 45 seconds to place seventh among a field of 1,463 runners. He had the top time among 60 entrants in the men’s age 50-54 division.

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Rain has spread across the region and with the warmer temperatures today, most locations will remain as rain, but locations from Rangeley to Greenville, Millinocket, Houlton & north will change to snow. Snowfall totals will average around 1-3″ with some pockets up to 4″. The locations that see rain should expect less than a quarter of an inch. Even with the rain & snow tonight, temperatures will remain on the warmer side with lows ranging from just below freezing across the north to close to 40° along the coast.

The Southern Aroostook Warriors girls basketball team defeated the Central Red Devils 64-55 in Dyer Brook on Wednesday, November 29th. Southern Aroostook led 18-7 at the end of the 1st Quarter and 33-22 at the end of the 1st Half. They were on top 54-41 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
Mild today, unsettled weekend
A weak wave of low pressure will works its way into the pine tree state this evening with light rainfall south of Greenville and Millinocket and light snow norther of there. The weather will remain unsettled through the weekend with snow showers across norther Maine on Saturday and some isolated rain showers possible further south. Sunday night another area of low pressure will slide in from the Great Lakes but transfer energy to coastal low. This would allow enough cold air to be drawn in from the north to actually see some accumulating and plowable snow further south than we’ve seen so far this season. Even with models coming to more of an agreement, there are still some major differences between the two in regards to snowfall amounts, therefor it is too early to dive into those details. But stay tuned for the latest.
