BALTIMORE, MD—With Easter Sunday right around the corner, the personal-finance website WalletHub this week released its annual Easter Survey, which found that nearly 7 in 10 people are planning to spend less on Easter this year compared to last year.
To find out which cities promise the most egg-citing time on March 31, WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities across 11 key metrics, ranging from candy and chocolate shops per capita to the city’s Christian population.
Best Cities for Easter
1. Pittsburgh, PA 11. Tampa, FL
2. Birmingham, AL 12. Cincinnati, OH
3. Buffalo, NY 13. Cleveland, OH
4. Orlando, FL 14. Wichita, KS
5. El Paso, TX 15. Miami, FL
6. Atlanta, GA 16. St. Paul, MN

WalletHub found that a total of $22 billion in Easter-related spending is expected in 2024 ($177 per person celebrating), with $3.1 billion being spent on Easter candy. The report also found that 60% of parents plan on send Easter baskets to their children after they’ve moved out.

“The best cities for Easter cater to the religious nature of the holiday by offering plenty of opportunities for Christians to attend services, and they also provide the resources for people to have a great time with their family regardless of religious affiliation,” says WalletHub analyst Cassandra Happe. “That means lots of places to get some sweet treats or dine out, as well as good weather conditions and nice open spaces for Easter egg hunts.”
“Pittsburgh is the best city for celebrating Easter, in part because it has some of the most churches per capita and a very high share of the population identifying as Christian, so there’s a lot of people celebrating and plenty of places for them to worship,” Happe added. “Pittsburgh also has some of the most candy shops per capita and a high number of chocolate shops per capita, so it’s easy to sweeten the celebration.”
