DENVER (KDVR) — A post office in Bailey was forced to close Saturday after a driver crashed into the building Friday night.
“A runaway vehicle crashed through the building yesterday evening, forcing retail operations to be temporarily suspended,” the U.S. Postal Service said in a release.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Postal Service told FOX31 a customer was there after hours to collect mail from their PO box.
As the driver pulled up to the building, the spokesperson said their brakes apparently failed and the vehicle crashed into the building.
Because of the crash, the post office said retail operations will be temporarily suspended at the Bailey location at 24 River Drive.
In the meantime, customers can pick up PO Box mail and packages at the rear entrance of the building during normal business hours, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Retail operations will not be available, but nearby post offices will be open for retail needs:
Pine Post Office, 187 Mount Evans Blvd.: open weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon
Conifer Post Office, 9546 S Dallman Dr.: open weekdays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 7:30 a.m. to noon
USPS said efforts to make the building accessible and safe are underway.
