Public hearing on $6.1M municipal budget set for May 28

AVON-BY-THE-SEA — The Avon-By-The-Sea Board of Commissioners introduced the 2024 municipal budget, which would increase the tax rate from .264 in 2023 to .269 this year, by resolution during its Monday, April 22 meeting.

The board will be holding a public hearing and more detailed discussion regarding the budget and the effect it will have on taxpayers on Tuesday, May 28 at 5 p.m. at the Avon Marina Building, 2 Main St.

In the meantime, a full breakdown of the municipal budget can be found online at the borough’s website, avonbytheseanj.com.

The total general appropriations for the 2024 fiscal year is in the amount of $6,115,331.33.

The borough has maintained all of the same services from the previous year, resulting in a 2% increase in operating costs.

Avon’s tax rate would increase slightly, from .264 in 2023 to .269 this year, with $3,742,134 to be raised by property taxes. The average assessed home in the borough is $1,303,811, which would, pending approval, would see a $68.79 increase in the annual municipal tax bill.
