Undefeated Tulare Western football rolls to 8th straight win
TULARE — Talent. Tempo. Toughness. That has carried the Tulare Western High School football team to an undefeated start this season. The Mustangs won their eighth straight game behind their no-huddle spread offense, stampeding past Central Valley Christian 49-21 on Oct. 16 at Bob Mathias Stadium. Recording-setting quarterback Juju Hernandez threw for 466 yards and six touchdowns, four of those going to 6-foot-3 receiver Amarion Taylor. Taylor, a four-star Division I recruit, scored all four of his receiving touchdowns in the first half and finished with 163 yards receiving on nine catches. Three of Taylor's touchdowns came on jump balls in the end zone. He scored on 12-, 25-, 17- and 22-yard catches. Tulare Western's Dom Martinez led all receivers with 12 catches for 204 yards. His spectacular 27-yard touchdown snag right before halftime gave the Mustangs a commanding 42-14 lead at the break. Landan Seechan also scored a highlight-worthy touchdown catch when he stretched out for an eight-yard strike. Seechan added nine catches for 84 yards. Hernandez completed his first 11 passes. The Mustangs led 28-7 after the opening quarter. In the first half, Hernandez went 26-of-30 passing for 394 yards to give Tulare Western a 28-point lead at

Hanford football snaps two-game skid with big win over Redwood
HANFORD — Head coach Cannon Sanchez's football team made a statement on Oct. 15 at Neighbor Bowl. Hanford took care of business from start to finish, beating Redwood 42-20 in an East Yosemite League high school football game to snap a two-game skid. The Bullpups (6-2, 2-2) were physical from the get-go, forcing Redwood star Jairus Brooks to fumble the opening kickoff. Madden Maestas recovered the loose ball to give Hanford possession at the Rangers' 25-yard line. Five plays later, Bullpups quarterback Jerren Mao connected with receiver Braylen Thomas on a bubble screen for a 10-yard touchdown. Carsten Gravance ran in the two-point conversion, and Hanford grabbed an immediate 8-0 lead just a minute and 53 seconds into the game. The Bullpups never trailed and were physical defensively on every snap, including on Redwood's final offensive play of the game. Facing a fourth-and-goal at the Hanford 2, Redwood's Nash McElree attempted a quarterback sneak, but Sanchez's squad stood tall, stopping the Ranger signal-caller short of the goal line. After scoring a combined 43 points in losses to Central Valley Christian and Tulare Union, Hanford's no-huddle tempo offense flourished against Redwood, nearly matching that total with six touchdowns.
