AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man charged with murder in connection with an August 2022 incident was acquitted March 28, according to Travis County court documents.

Records showed Coltan Moore was acquitted of the murder charge by reason of insanity. Documents said Moore pleaded not guilty to the charge.

As part of the judgment, Moore must be committed to a mental health facility or residential care facility for treatment. The judge also ordered Moore be evaluated within 30 days as to whether he poses a threat, and whether he will continue treatment. If he is determined to need continued treatment, Moore could be committed to a mental health facility for up to 99 years, which is the maximum sentence for murder.
