Another fan fumed: "This losing streak of Carrie Underwood with awards needs to stop already just because she's 41 years old that doesn't mean she can't do the job."

Carrie has been a regular fixture at the awards over the years. She has won female vocalist of the year several times before and is a huge hit with fans.

There was further uproar on the night as fans were convinced Beyoncé would make a surprise appearance on the night. She has embraced country music in her latest album so fans hoped to see her at an event honouring the genre.

The Texas-born singer released her latest album Cowboy Carter recently, making her the first black artist to reach number one in the UK with a country album. Fans took to social media to share their thoughts. "Sooooo is Beyoncé going to the CMT AWARDS tomorrow night?"

In a jam-packed evening Trisha Yearwood made history too. Trisha received the June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award at 2024 CMT Music Awards tonight in Austin, Texas .

The honor was given to her by friend and former colleague, British actress Jane Seymour. Trisha made an appearance on Jane's six season drama, Dr. Quinn. Trisha looked stunning in a glittery black gown with a high neck. She glammed up with her hair swept up in an up do, as she got a hug from her Hollywood star pal Jane who looked sensational in a black sleeveless dress.
