Saint Francis to take on Northwestern in Austin Regional

LORETTO, Pa. (WTAJ) — Saint Francis is off to the NCAA Tournament after winning the NEC Championship Game on Saturday. The Red Flash will be the three seed in the Austin Regional. It’s just the second time in program history that the Red Flash have been the three seed in a Regional.

Saint Francis will square off with Northwestern in its first action. Other teams in the Austin Regional include the top seeded Texas and Siena. The matchup with Northwestern will be Friday May 17 at 6:30 pm ET.

“Everyone’s super excited. I think this is a cool opportunity for our school. The seniors in fifth years have been an Austin Regional before, so it’s going to be a very full circle moment,” said Rachel Marsden. “But I think we’re all looking forward to it and we’re looking forward to being in the three seed in the tournament.”

“I feel very confident,” said Lexi Hernandez. “I think we’re all seeing the ball very well right now, and our pitching staff is doing very, very well right now. So very confident.”

The Red Flash had a big bounce back season this year going 40-12 while also going undefeated in conference play. Saint Francis is playing some of its best softball after dominating the NEC Tournament. In three games they allowed just four runs and hit nine home runs.
