AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- A major addition to Augusta Regional Airport. Tuesday a groundbreaking ceremony was held for StandardAero’s new Aviation Facility.

Augusta Regional Airport and the Economic Development Authority were able to secure a grant that made this large project possible.

“…As our customer base demands newer technology, that’s what this hangar will do for us,” President of Business Aviation at StandardAero Tony Brancato said.

A Company that has been rooted in Augusta for the past 50 years, has announced it’s continuing to spread its wings through the Garden City skies.

“This newer hangar will allow us to now bring in newer products, larger aircraft, larger engines as our market continues to grow,” Brancato said.

The 80,500 square foot hangar expansion will add 60% more space than the current facility built in the 1970s. But Augusta Regional Airport President Herbert Judon says that’s not all.

“This project specifically is gonna create approximately 100 jobs in our region, and these are some of the highest paying jobs– average salary– in Augusta,” Augusta Regional Airport executive Director Herbert Judon said.

The project will not directly impact travelers flying with corporate airlines like Delta and American Airlines.

Several partners helped to make this project possible– like the Augusta Economic Development Authority. Officials say there were difficulties getting to this point, but they’re glad dirt has been moved.

“This is what drives our economy. Our manufacturing base, the skills within our workforce– this is the reason companies look at Augusta, because of growth like this with the StandardAeros, with the other industries that call Augusta home,” President of Augusta Economic Development Authority Cal Wray said.

With the new investments, the company plans on servicing Augusta for 50 more years. Construction is expected to be completed by next year.
