Audrain Humane Society fundraiser dinner set
The Audrain County Humane Society (AHS) has started its fall fundraising campaign that includes a Lady and the Tramp evening of diamonds, champagne, and spaghetti. The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28, at The Ballroom at Homestead Hearth located at 105 North Coal Street in Mexico and will begin at 6 p.m. with a social cash bar followed by a lasagna or meatless spaghetti dinner. A champagne glass with or without champagne can be purchased for $20 for a chance to win a .25-carat diamond from Melody’s Fine Jewelry. The cost of the dinner is $30 per person.
Two arrested after authorities find stolen vehicles, guns, and drugs in Audrain County
A man and a woman from Audrain County are arrested when deputies find stolen vehicles, stolen guns, and drugs on their property. The Audrain County Sheriff’s Office says deputies, along with members of the East Central Drug Task Force and Missouri State Highway Patrol, executed a search warrant for property along Highway BB in rural Laddonia Tuesday morning.
Audrain County authorities investigating incident involving man who shot himself
Authorities in Audrain County are investigating an incident that involved a man accidentally shooting himself in the foot. The Mexico Public Safety Department says officers were called to the 900 block of Emmons around 11:00 last night in reference to a gunshot, and a vehicle leaving the scene. Their investigation revealed that a 39-year-old Mexico man had been in the area with some associates, holding a gun. The gun accidentally discharged, shooting the man in the foot. The man left the scene and has avoided contact with officers, who are still investigating the incident. The Department says there’s no indication anyone was threatened or that there were any other injuries.

The Mexico Public Safety Department says officers were called to the 600 block of West Boulevard around 10:30 Thursday morning for a report of someone taking an off-road vehicle down residential side streets. An Audrain County man is arrested on drug charges for the second time in three days. Ethan Levings, 29, of Mexico, was charged with first-degree drug trafficking and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia Friday. He was also charged with operating a motorized bicycle without a license and failure to stop at a stop sign. He’s being held without bond and has a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
Empty Audrain County home damaged by fire
A vacant home in Audrain County is damaged by fire. The Mexico Public Safety Department says crews were called to a house fire in the 300 block of West Anderson just before 8:00 Monday morning. A caretaker of the home, which had been empty for months, arrived to find smoke coming from inside the home. Crews found personal items burning in a hallway of the home.
Nine-year-old Mexico girl struck by vehicle walking home from school
An Audrain County girl is struck by a vehicle while walking home from school. The Mexico Department of Public Safety reports the incident happened Wednesday afternoon in the area of West Boulevard and Dogwood Drive. A nine-year-old girl was walking home when she crossed the street in front of the vehicle. Police say the driver, Christina Karkut, 33, of Mexico, attempted to stop but couldn’t avoid the collision.
