BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – A man was sentenced after pleading guilty to multiple counts of larceny in Buncombe County.

According to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, 47-year-old Randall Paul Penland Jr. was arrested for a string of breaking and enterings in the Fairview and Arden areas in September of 2023 after detectives received information that led to a search warrant at a residence on Concord Road in Asheville.

Reports state Penland targeted the homes of older women in the community and would steal jewelry and other personal items when they weren’t home.

Penland was charged with the following:

  • six counts of felony breaking and entering
  • three counts of felony larceny after breaking
  • misdemeanor larceny

The sheriff’s office said Penland was on parole at the time of his arrest and transferred back to the Department of Adult Corrections to finish out his sentence from a habitual felon conviction in 2014.

Penland pled guilty to two counts of larceny after breaking and entering and one count of attempted larceny. He has been sentenced to serve between 40 and 57 months in prison.
