Jacksonville restaurant known for healthy menu options closes abruptly
After two years, a Jacksonville restaurant closed abruptly as its owner plans to focus on its original Ponte Vedra Beach dining spot. McFlamingo shut its doors permanently on March 8 at 13799 Beach Blvd., Suite 1, in the Hodges Plaza Outparcel shopping center on the Southside, owner Erik Osol confirmed to the Times-Union as he cleaned the restaurant. The first restaurant remains open at 880 A1A N., Suite 12, in Ponte Vedra Pointe Shopping Center, which opened in 2019, Osol emphasized. Osol said he's closed the Beach Boulevard restaurant so he can concentrate on "solidifying" as well as expanding the Ponte Vedra dining spot. McFlamingo specializes in a fresh-from-scratch, gluten-free menu. It features entrees such as grilled chicken, salmon, shrimp, and a lentil patty. It also offers customizable salads, sandwiches on gluten-free bread, snacks and sides, according to its online menu. Opening in October 2023, the Beach Boulevard restaurant was more of a take-out concept rather than a sit-down dining spot, although it is licensed for up to 49 seats by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. "Basically, when I opened this place, it was opened with the intent of doing a heavy to-go business. So, the whole
