City halts negotiations on Gilroy Gardens property
The City of Gilroy has halted negotiations with a company that previously showed interest in purchasing the city’s 536-acre property that includes Gilroy Gardens. In a May 9 announcement, Gilroy Communications Manager Rachelle Bedell said the city has ceased talks with BayEcotarium that began under an exclusive negotiating agreement. The city council voted to enter into the ENA with BayEcotarium in February, and the ENA period is set to expire in June.

Man arrested for DUI after crash, one injured
A Watsonville man was arrested on suspicion of DUI Monday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash. Watsonville Police officer Bobby Rodriguez said the suspect was driving a red Chevy Silverado pickup westbound on Martinelli Street around 4:30pm. Witnesses told police that the driver ran a stop sign at Brewington Avenue, and plowed broadside into a black GMC Yukon Denali SUV driven by a Watsonville man. He had just pulled away from a stop sign at Martinelli Street and was attempting to continue south on Brewington when he was struck.

55-hour lane closures planned for Highway 101 in Monterey County
PRUNEDALE, Calif. — Caltrans said that one lane of Highway 101 will be closed in Prunedale for over two days starting Friday night. Alternating lane closures are planned for south Highway 101 from Highway 156 west to Blackie Road starting Friday at 8 p.m. At no point will both lanes be closed at the same time.
