Monroe man accused of raping juvenile
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - A 52-year-old Monroe resident was arrested on May 9 after a juvenile victim told police he raped her. The victim told police she went to the home of Thomas Smith, who is a family friend, after an argument with her mother. According to arrest records, the victim told police she was complaining about it being hot inside when Smith told her to go lie down in his room.
City of Monroe officials urge residents to be vigilant during severe weather
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The City of Monroe urges the community to stay weather-aware ahead of expected severe weather on Thursday, May 9. Several ArkLaMiss parishes are under a severe weather watch until 11 p.m. In their afternoon update, the Storm Prediction Center put most of ArkLaMiss at an enhanced risk (level 3 of 5) for strong to severe storms.

This upgrade was made due to an increased potential of potentially intense damaging winds and large hail. We will have to keep a close eye on storm activity from 8:00 p.m. Thursday through 3:00 a.m. early Friday morning.
