GCPS' Álex Borges named UGA Alumni Association’s 2026 Emerging Leader Award recipient
Álex Borges, an Assistant Director of Gwinnett County Public Schools’ Community-Based Mentoring Program, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Emerging Leader Award by the University of Georgia Alumni Association. The honor recognizes alumni who demonstrate exceptional dedication, initiative, and leadership through service to the university and their broader communities. “Being recognized with the 2026 Emerging Leader Award is incredibly meaningful because it reflects something I care deeply about: using my connection to UGA to create opportunities for others,” said Borges. “Whether through mentoring students, supporting future Bulldogs, building community partnerships, or staying actively engaged as an alumnus, I have always tried to make service the foundation of my leadership.” Borges says his personal journey fuels his commitment to expanding access for future generations of students. “As a first-generation college graduate, I know how powerful it can be when someone opens a door, makes a connection, or simply helps you see what is possible,” Borges said. “To be recognized for doing that for others is both humbling and affirming. This award serves as a reminder that leadership is not about a title. It is about showing up, building community, and creating opportunities for others to grow and succeed,” Borges

'The Voice of Atlanta' honored on Campbell High history wall
SMYRNA — Campbell High School added another esteemed name to its history wall Thursday afternoon. Students will now see the face of popular radio personality and P.A. announcer Ryan Cameron on the wall as they pass through the halls on their way to class. The history wall, located in one of the school’s main hallways, acts as a sort of wall of fame, outlining the school’s extensive history while highlighting the names and faces of some of the school’s most notable alumni. Nicknamed “The Voice of Atlanta,” Cameron is a two-time Emmy Award-winning radio host, broadcaster and multimedia personality with over 30 years of experience in the Atlanta radio industry. Sports fans may recognize Cameron’s name — as well as his voice — from his work hyping up Atlanta sports crowds as the former P.A. announcer for the Atlanta Hawks and current P.A. announcer for the Atlanta Falcons. His signature line “For threeeeee,” shouted every time a Hawks player sank a three-point shot, became synonymous with the team and went on to appear in the popular NBA 2K video game franchise. His broadcasting work has garnered him much critical acclaim, having been inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame
