Lions Club to host free vision screening event in Apple Valley

The Lions Club of Apple Valley will host a free vision screening and resource fair this weekend.

The event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at Church of the Valley, 20700 Standing Rock Avenue in Apple Valley.

The fair will also include community resources and vendor booths. The club will also collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids.

“We are excited to bring the vision screening back to the High Desert to serve our community,” club spokesperson Donna Rollins said. “We’re also thrilled to have so many medical professionals donating their time and expertise to offer services.”

California Lions Friends in Sight and Choice Medical Group will also assist at the event.

California Lions Friends in Sight provides free vision screenings and recycled eyeglasses throughout Southern California and Northern Mexico.

Anyone can participate, especially children and those with financial hardship, according to the organization.

During these screenings, licensed doctors provide an eye health assessment and if necessary, free recycled eyeglasses.

The vision screening does not replace comprehensive eye examinations through a doctor’s office, event organizers said. It does assess eye health concerns and provides a usable pair of recycled eyeglasses until professional services can be obtained.
