City of Greenville large item trash pickup announcement
GREENVILLE – The City of Greenville would like to remind the community that per our current contract with Rumpke Waste Incorporated, the next opportunity for large item pickup will be August 5-9. Large item pickup service will take place on the resident’s regularly scheduled trash collection day of each of these weeks. (This is for large item purposes only—not bags.)
Wristbands available July 27 for Versailles FareFest
VERSAILLES — The Versailles FareFest is schedule to take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 17 in downtown Versailles. Though who purchase wristbands to the event will receive a complimentary crystal wine glass while experiencing three hours of unlimited beer, wine and food. This year, multiple Miami Valley restaurants will be featured, along with three live bands. To complement the food, over 40 beers and 100 wine options from wineries and distillers throughout the country will be offered.
Free Family Art Day at Bear’s Mill
GREENVILLE — The Darke County Parks District and Darke Center for the Arts will team up with Ohio Second Lady Tina Husted at Historic Bear’s Mill on Saturday, Aug. 3 as part of its 175th anniversary celebrations. This free community event will take place at 6450 Arcanum Bear’s Mill Road, Greenville, from 10 a.m. to noon. Families are invited to explore several stations of free try-it art stations, including pottery demos, flower pounding, natural rubbings & stamping, painting, and more. Mrs. Husted will be present to welcome visitors.

Americana Wing and Lowell Thomas exhibit reopens
GREENVILLE — The tornado on May 7 disrupted a lot of lives and caused a lot of damage to a large swath of area in the City of Greenville. Although life has returned to normal for most, the destruction that was caused is still evident. Buildings have yet to be repaired in the City Park, roofs remain covered with blue tarps awaiting roofing crews to become available to make repairs and some are still waiting for trees to be completely cleared.
Economic Development hosts STEAM Camp
GREENVILLE — Junior high students entering seventh and eighth grades in Darke County recently had the unique opportunity to explore the exciting world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) through an interactive day camp. Coordinated by Darke County Economic Development, the camp, now in its fifth year, has seen significant growth and interest from the local community.

Pitsenbarger to be honored with new memorial
TROY — Airman First Class William Pitsenbarger, who received the prestigious Medal of Honor 34 years after his death, will have a new memorial erected in his honor. The Miami County Commissioners approved a one-time contribution of $25,000 to Miami Memorial Park in Covington, where Pitsenbarger and his parents are buried, at their meeting on Tuesday, July 23.

Don was born August 28, 1927 in Cincinnati to a paper company truck driver, Harry R., Ronnebaum, and his German wife, Katherine (Storr). During 1930, the couple gave birth to a daughter, but she died of natural causes four years later. They would have no more children. By Don’s 10th birthday, the family had moved to Covington.
