Thomasville water tank undergoing maintenance
As many have probably noticed, the water tower on Hwy. 43 looks very strange right now. The tower is undergoing maintenance at the moment and Mayor Sheldon Day said it will have the inside sand blasted. What is happening now is a “skirt” is being hung to allow workers to do the sand blasting. Day also said at a recent city council meeting that the tower will also be repainted once the internal work is done.
Thomasville Grill opens to eager crowd
After a minor setback that pushed the grand opening back a couple of days, the new Thomasville Grill opened its doors for business last Wednesday, July 17. Taking the place of Gaston’s Grill after it closed its doors earlier this year, the Thomasville Grill opened bright and early at 6 a.m. to welcome patrons for breakfast and remained busy throughout the day. Diners were able to order from the menu or prepare a plate from the beloved buffet.
Mary Appleton Haas O’Melia
Mary Appleton “Appie” Haas O’Melia passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who was a native Mobilian and longtime resident of Grove Hill. Appie was greatly loved and is survived by her adoring husband of 60 years, Thomas Harrigan O’Melia; her children, Olivia O’Melia Iturbe (Trey), Appleton O’Melia Weston (Jeff) and Virginia O’Melia Cook (Miles); and eight grandchildren, Thomas Fellows Iturbe, Elliott Augustus Iturbe, Mary Appleton Weston, John Fuller Weston III, Harrigan Salisbury Weston, Virginia O’Melia Macpherson, John Ritchie Macpherson IV and Elizabeth Blacksher Macpherson. She is also survived by her sister, Blakely Haas Davis.
