A Massachusetts man won a $1 million prize from a lottery ticket he’d bought for $5 in his hometown. The prize was from the lottery’s “Waves of Cash” scratch ticket game, which was released on Aug. 1, 2023. There’s just one $1 million prize left to be claimed in the game as of April 25.

A dead whale has washed up on a beach in Marblehead, Massachusetts. The humpback whale was spotted on Preston Beach Thursday afternoon. "Seacoast Science Center, Tufts University, town officials and NOAA Fisheries are working together this morning to evaluate options for examination of the carcass," a spokesperson for NOAA Fisheries said Friday in a release.

Marblehead mother is an open book about her sobriety
BOSTON — Laura McKowen has been sober for more than a decade, but her difficult journey to recovery took years and an escalating series of crises caused by her alcohol use. After her first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, the Marblehead mom spent a year working on her sobriety before she was finally able to stop drinking for good. McKowen’s first book We Are The Luckiest: The Surprising Magic of a Sober Life hit store shelves in early 2020. She gained a significant following on social media and soon launched her own online sobriety support community The Luckiest Club. In 2023, McKowen released her second book Push Off from Here: 9 Essential Truths to Get You Through Life. BEVERLY - Drummer Roger Wonson celebrated his 100th birthday by playing with his band Voltage at his senior living facility on Wednesday.The 100-year-old drummer said it was actually his brother that got him started on the drums."When he was 18 and I was 12, he was more interested in girls than the drums, so I said, 'Gee can I practice on the drums?' and he said 'Sure.' So that's the way it started," Wonson recalled.Wonson, a World War II veteran, turned 100 on April 20. His secret to a long life? Don't worry about the things you can't control.
