Less than a month after Anderson's police chief returned to work after being placed on leave while the city conducted an investigation, he has notified the city that he is retiring.

Anderson Police Chief Jon Poletski was eligible for retirement and had notified city officials of his intent to retire, Anderson City Manager Joey Forseth-Deshais said Monday. Poletski's last day with the department will be June 13, Forseth-Deshais said.

Poletski had been on administrative leave from the department for about a month while the city conducted an investigation. Citing personnel and privacy issues, Forseth-Deshais said he could not say what the investigation entailed, except that none of its findings were "sustained."

Poletski returned to work on April 1 and Forseth-Deshais acknowledged Monday that the chief was retiring.

Poletski, who was previously a captain with the Redding Police Department, began serving as acting chief in Anderson in August 2021 and he was appointed chief a month later. He accepted the job after the Shasta County Board of Supervisors appointed former Chief Michael Johnson to be the new sheriff.

Poletski declined Tuesday to comment on his retirement.

Poletski's regular pay in 2022 was $217,554 and total earnings, including benefits, was $341,792, according to Transparent California, which obtains salary and benefit information about public employees through public records requests.

Information about Poletski's pay in 2023 was not available.

Forseth-Deshais did not say how the city planned to fill the chief's position — whether it would be a statewide or nationwide search or whether the position would be filled by a member of the current department's staff. Capt. Nathan Ramirez served as acting chief while Poletski was on leave.
