Monday forecast: Very hot to begin the week
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Heat remains the overall main concern at least through mid-week with a gradual cool down toward the end of the week. Rain chances remain hit and miss with most spots dry through mid-week with a better chance for scattered activity toward the end of the week. The weekend is trending near/slightly below average for this time of year.

As was the case Sunday, hot and sticky conditions are with us Monday. Air temperatures should be just below 100 degrees in Emporia by late afternoon. Heat index readings may climb as high as 102 locally. Chase and Greenwood counties, meanwhile, are in a heat advisory from 12-8 pm Monday with heat index readings as high as 107 expected.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Storms develop this evening and overnight, mainly along and south of I-70, with hail, 60 mph wind gusts, and heavy rain possible. A few strong to severe storms are possible across the far southeast counties. Storms clear by Friday morning, then heat builds with heat indices of 95–105°F this weekend into early next week.
