Warbird Academy Prepares To Open Its Hangar Doors To The Public
With more than 17,000 hours of total flight time, Chris Grounds will open the hangar doors of his Warbird Academy at Douglas Municipal Airport in southern Georgia on Nov. 9, 2024. Fittingly, the airport served as the home base for the 63rd Army Air Forces Flying Training Detachment Wing during World War II. There is a museum on the site, and parts of the airport are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University Rural Development Institute hosted a three-day summit for Coffee County leaders. A four-member team from Coffee County recently attended the Valdosta State University Center for South Georgia Regional Impact Rural Development Institute, a three-day summit designed to help communities across Georgia develop an action plan for rural prosperity.
Groundbreaking for Airport Circle projects to honor WWII air base cadets and Major Charles J. Loring, Jr.
The World War II Flight Training Museum, Douglas Air Base Preservation & Development Committee, and the City of Douglas invite the public to attend a significant groundbreaking ceremony at the 63rd Army Air Force Contract Pilot School (Primary) a.k.a. Douglas’ World War II Air Base on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at 1 Airport Circle. The ceremony aims to pay a special tribute to the cadets of the World War II era who underwent primary flight training in Douglas, as well as to Major Charles J. Loring, Jr., a distinguished former cadet and a valorous recipient of the Medal of Honor.
