In Praise of Barbera: Amador Wine Competition Winners
April 26, 2024 – One of the most focused of the wine competitions that I get to judge, this one is only open to wines made from the Sierra Foothills AVA, which includes Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Nevada, Placer, Tuolumne and Yuba counties. Entries are primarily from Amador County wineries, though, as the event is held at the Amador Fairgrounds in Plymouth.
1 killed, 3 others injured in multiple vehicle crash in Amador County
AMADOR COUNTY -- One person is dead and three others are injured following a multiple-vehicle crash on Highway 88 in Amador County Friday evening, according to Amador Fire.The crash is in the area of Highway 88 and Silver Drive. Highway 88 was briefly closed in both directions but has since reopened.Three other people were injured. Firefighters said one was taken to the hospital via helicopter while two others were transported via a ground ambulance. The CHP Amador said a Chevrolet TrailBlazer was heading east and a Ford Explorer was traveling west when the TrailBlazer crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on with the Explorer.The Explorer then went down a steep embankment. The crash remains under investigation.

BUCKHORN, Calif. — A crash on Highway 88 in Pioneer left one person dead and three others injured on Friday evening, Amador Fire officials said. California Highway Patrol said a vehicle, going at an unknown speed, crossed over the double-yellow line and collided head-on with another vehicle, causing the latter to veer off down the embankment.
Head-on crash kills 1, injures 3 in Amador County
AMADOR COUNTY, Calif. — One person was killed and three others were injured in Amador County after head-on crash Friday evening, according to Amador Fire officials. California Highway Patrol says a Ford Explorer was driving westbound on 88, just west of Silver Drive, when it was hit by a Chevrolet Trail Blazer driving eastbound. Both cars were driving at an "unknown" speed and it's unclear at this time why the Chevrolet crossed over the double yellow lines in the road.
