U-Haul van plows into bank in Allentown; police investigating

Allentown police are investigating a crash Friday night when a U-Haul truck plowed into a Wells Fargo branch in the 1600 block of Union Boulevard. Anthony Salamone/The Morning Call/TNS

Allentown police and emergency personnel responded Friday evening after a driver in a U-Haul plowed into a Wells Fargo branch on Union Boulevard.

The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Witnesses said the driver was heading west on Union Boulevard when it crossed over the road, struck two parked vehicles and slammed into the left front corner of the bank building the bank building, where the bank’s ATM machine is located.

No injuries were reported. One person, who was treated by ambulance personnel, wound up taken to an area hospital, police said.

Police did not provide details at the scene and had not issued a news release as of Saturday morning about the crash.

Authorities closed Union Boulevard for an unspecified time between Plymouth and Maxwell streets.
