The first event run on Day 3 was the 300 Meter Hurdles, Gunner Thielges of LaMoure/Litchville-Marion, who qualified for the finals in all four of his events on Friday, took fourth in the 300 Meter Hurdles with a time of 41.19 picking up five team points for the Loboes. Another event he qualified for the finals was the 100 Meters. The Class A was run first and Valley City’s Parker Jacobson finished seventh picking up two team points for the Hi-Liners. He ran in a time of 11.16. In the Class B finals, Thielges finished fifth with a time of 11.43 and earning the Loboes four team points. In his third final of the day, the 110 Meter Hurdles, Thielges placed fifth with a time of 16.19 picking up four more team points for the Loboes. In his final event of the day, the 4x100, the Loboes team of Colby Thielges, Owen Lesko, Gunner Thielges and Max Musland placed fourth with a time of 43.75 and gained five team points. In the girls Class A 800 Meters, Reagan Berg placed third with a school record time of 2:15.34 picking up six team points. Greta Goven placed eleventh with a time of 2:21.27. In the girls Class A 4x400 relay, the Hi-Liner team of Greta Goven, Tricia Pfennig, Cadence Fetsch and Brynn Lueck placed 16th with a time of 4:26.10.
First two days of state track are soggy, but in the books. Hi-Liner girls tied for fourth.
The State Track and Field Championships are off and running at the Community Bowl in Bismarck. Thirty-Eight Athletes from Valley City, LaMoure/Litchville-Marion and Maple River will be competed with the best athletes in the state. Valley City had State Champions, and place winners. LaMoure/Litchville-Marion had state champions and place winners. Maple River had state champions and place winners.
AVMA Applauds Veterinary Priorities in the Farm Bill
(NAFB.com) – The House and Senate Agriculture Committees have taken action to pass a new Farm Bill that would reauthorize many federal programs essential to veterinary medicine. Working with lawmakers and stakeholder groups, AVMA’s sustained advocacy led to the inclusion of the veterinary profession’s top legislative priorities that will help protect animal welfare and maintain public health. AVMA President Dr. Rena Carlson says, “AVMA’s continued advocacy has led to the inclusion of reauthorizations, funding, and legislation that will help protect animal and human welfare while advancing veterinary medicine.” Key provisions for AVMA include the Healthy Dog Importation Act and reauthorization of animal disease prevention and management programs. Further, AVMA supports the reauthorization of the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program, and the Veterinary Services Grant Program included in the farm bill. AVMA is the nation’s leading representative of the veterinary profession, speaking for more than 105,000 member veterinarians nationwide.
Hi-Liners softball season ends one win shy of a state tournament berth
Valley City was 1-2 at the Eastern Dakota Conference softball tournament which was held in Casselton due to poor playing conditions at the field in Fargo. Valley City came up one game short on reaching the state tournament for then first time since 2019.

After rolling through the regular season with an undefeated record, the Valley City Hi-Liners journeyed to Fargo for the EDC Championships, looking to defend their regular-season crown. With postseason play consisting of a 3-2 format instead of the usual 6-3, the Hi-Liners’ depth would be tested like never before.
Sheyenne Valley Soap Box Derby June 1st in Valley City
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The annual Sheyenne Valley Soap Box Derby will be held Saturday, June 1st on Central Avenue in Valley City. The winners in the Super Stock and Stock division will earn the right to compete in the International Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio this July. There are age and weight limits and well as business sponsorship opportunities locally.
