3 California convenience store robbery-spree suspects arrested in Long Beach; 2 on the run
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Members of a group accused of going on a spree of robbing convenience stores across Southern California got arrested in Long Beach. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, three people have been placed in custody after catching them inside a car that was linked to the robberies. Two other suspects remain on the run as of 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, LASD told FOX 11.

Minimum Wage in Pasadena Will Increase on July 1
Pasadena’s minimum wage is set to increase from $16.93 per hour to $17.50 per hour for all businesses, regardless of size, on July 1, 2024. Eight years ago, on March 14, 2016, the Pasadena City Council adopted its own minimum wage ordinance. Pasadena’s minimum wage rules were approved prior to the State of California’s action, and the state’s minimum wage does not preempt Pasadena’s minimum wage ordinance.

Investigation underway after man shot to death in South Gate
An investigation is underway after a man was found shot to death in South Gate on Monday. Deputies were dispatched to the 2300 block of Firestone Boulevard after learning of the incident at around 1:30 a.m., according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Circumstances surrounding the shooting are not immediately known, but deputies arrived to find the man suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. He has not yet been identified. Investigators were unable to provide information on either a motive or suspect in the incident. Anyone with further information is asked to contact LASD's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
City of Downey bans the Pride flag
Downey was the first city in southeast Los Angeles County, a predominantly Latino region, to ever display the Pride flag. Now, the city council members has voted for what is called a “neutral flag policy,” thus eliminating the use of the flag on any government property. In the all-Latino city council, only two of the five council members voted against the proposal.

Vanessa Bryant joined Nickerson Gardens residents Monday for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of refurbished gym at the public housing community in Watts. Nickerson Gardens, managed by the Housing Authority of Los Angeles, was chosen for the project by the widow of Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. The decision was made, in part, because it's the former site of the Boys and Girls Club where Kobe Bryant hosted his "Mamba League" youth basketball program.
