Fallen Officer Memorial Ceremony at Walker Sayle Unit pays tribute to sacrifice and service
A memorial ceremony honoring fallen correctional officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty was held at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Walker Sayle Unit on Thursday, May 9. During the ceremony, the unit’s staff joined with community members to honor those men and women and their sacrifices.

Share the road: Ride of Silence Wednesday in Abilene
This Wednesday, there will be a Ride of Silence through Abilene in remembrance of those who have lost their lives in cycling-related crashes in Taylor and Jones Counties. The ride will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday with pre-ride ceremonies starting at 6:40 p.m. in the north parking lot of Radford Auditorium at McMurry University.

Local campus ‘locked down’ briefly
A lockdown at the Albany secondary campus on Tuesday, ordered as the result of an altercation taking place a few blocks away, lasted just a few minutes, but ended with a local man arrested and charged with two counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer, along with a secondary charge of un law ful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Albany citizens are reminded that this weekend May 10-12 will be the annual “Weekend Trash Dump, with large rolloffs to be located on the Chamber of Commerce parking lot.
