ALBANY, NY ( NEWS10 ) — The Albany FireWolves are getting ready to play in the NLL Finals after one of the great turnarounds in sports. After finishing in last place with a 3-15 record, the FireWolves are now on the cusp of a championship. Glenn Clark, the architect of the turnaround, was appropriately honored by the league on Wednesday.

Clark has been named both the NLL Coach and General Manager of the Year, becoming just the sixth person to earn both honors in the same year. Meanwhile, the FireWolves are looking to become just the second team to go worst to first; last place one year, to an NLL title the next.

With all that’s gone into the franchise’s turnaround, Clark doesn’t view these as individual awards. “I think it’s a lot of things,” said Clark. “I think it’s really good for the organization, especially where we were at last year, because these are, really, these are group awards. The GM, the coaching is all about the staff and the organization in general. To go through the journey we went through from last season where we were last and making changes that we thought were going to work, and we were we were selling hope and telling people we were going to be better and for it to turn out and be even above expectations I think is pretty cool.”

The FireWolves begin the NLL title series against the Buffalo Bandits at home on Friday night at 7:00 PM.
