Lee County to add turf fields for baseball and softball; make other improvements

Lee White Sox down Lee Giants for 10 and under championship
The Lee County 10 and under White Sox won the division championship Wednesday night 10-6 over the Lee Giants in Leesburg. Both teams scored five runs in the first inning but runs were harder to get after that initial inning and the time limit elapsed with the White Sox up 10-6 and the bases loaded. Georgia Roller Rink Closes After 42 Years
An Albany, Ga., institution – Stardust 2 Skate Centers – closed April 16 after being in operation since 1981. The nearest rink is now some 40 miles away in Moultrie, Ga. WALB reported that many in the community were sad to see it go. “My five grandchildren go to the skating rink. It’s bad news – bad news for the children,” William Bennett said of the closure.

ALBANY, Ga. -- Noles247 made their way to Albany (Ga.) Dougherty late last week to check in with four-star running back pledge Kameron Davis. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound back has been committed to Florida State since February of 2021. Despite interest from numerous other schools, Davis has remained firm in that pledge to the Seminoles and back in April, surrounding the Garnet and Gold Spring Showcase, Davis shut his recruitment down (more here).
Former Dougherty star Denver Bryant earns SEC All-Conference Honors
AUBURN, Ala. — Former Dougherty High School softball and baseball star Denver Bryant was named to the Southeastern Conference All-Conference team last week at the end of the regular softball season for the Tigers She was one of three Auburn players recognized by the conference — the others were pitcher Maddie Penta and slugger Nelia Peralta. Penta was named the SEC’s pitcher of the year.
