Food stamps: 38 states are delivering SNAP benefits worth up to $1,751 June 9-15

Throughout this week, 38 states , the District of Columbia, and territories are rolling out their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits to qualifying residents.

SNAP benefits are paid to low- and no-income households in need of financial assistance to pay for groceries. Households qualify for benefits if their net monthly income is at or below 100% of the federal poverty level, and benefits typically are allotted over a 12-month period. Funds are loaded onto electronic benefit transfer cards, and funds can be used at participating stores including major chains such as Walmart and Costco.

According to the Department of Human Services , a family of eight is eligible to receive a maximum of $1,751 worth of SNAP benefits. Each individual in addition to a family of eight is eligible to receive $219.

While 35 states and territories began paying out recipients on June 1, some residents in these states won’t see their benefits hit until as late as June 28. Each state manages and distributes the benefits differently, with some states making payments depending on a claimant’s number and others paying them out according to the first letter of their last name.

Here’s when each state, the District of Columbia, and territories can expect to receive SNAP benefits:

Arizona: June 1 to 13

Arkansas: June 4 to 13

California: June 1 to 10

Colorado: June 1 to 10

Delaware: June 2 to 23

District of Columbia: June 1 to 10

Florida: June 1 to 28

Georgia: June 5 to 23

Guam: June 1 to 10

Idaho: June 1 to 10

Illinois: June 1 to 20

Indiana: June 5 to 23

Iowa: June 1 to 10

Kansas: June 1 to 10

Kentucky: June 1 to 19

Louisiana: June 1 to 23

Maine: June 10 to 14

Maryland: June 4 to 23

Massachusetts: June 1 to 14

Michigan: June 3 to 21
