A man repeatedly stabbed his girlfriend in Adelanto before being taken into custody, authorities said.

The attack took place about 6:15 a.m. Friday at a home in the 11800 block of Sage Street, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Upon responding to a 911 call from the house, deputies encountered a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds.

It was determined the woman's boyfriend had stabbed her during an argument, the sheriff's department said in a written statement .

"Deputies located (the suspect) in the bedroom of the residence with their two children," the statement said. "The children were safely removed from the bedroom, and (the suspect) was taken into custody without incident. During a search of the residence, the knife and methamphetamine were located."

The injured woman was hospitalized for treatment. An update on her condition was not available.

Fernando Mora Garcia, 35, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, county booking records show. Bail was set at $1 million pending an arraignment hearing, which was scheduled Tuesday in the Victorville branch of San Bernardino County Superior Court.
