Eyes are on gold down the line in Adel. (Note: Events covered May 7-14)

Earning 24th place last season at the state meet, the Tigers are taking aim for an even bigger spotlight as they haul in 19 qualifiers at this year’s championship starting Thursday.

Looking to collect some hardware, Brevin Doll walks in tagged as the top seed in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. He’ll be joined by Aiden Flora as the third seed in both events as well, with the two looking to take gold and silver — a potential 36 points from those two events alone would have slotted ADM in sixth place in 2023 and their roles don’t stop there.

Doll and Flora are key cogs in the top-seeded 4x100 and second-seeded 4x200 meter relays. Mason Vanorny and Tyler Gelhaar complete the former roster while Grant Rychnovsky and Zach Lohmann work into the latter.

Lohmann himself has strong odds to earn points on his own as he’s tagged seventh in the 400-meter hurdles. He placed fifth in the event as a junior. And adding another dimension the team didn’t have last season, Drew Hickey earned bids in both the discus and shot put (he placed 16th in the latter last season). The school record holder in the two events, Hickey’s eighth seed in the discus is the team’s highest along with Gelhaar in the long jump.

After earning second place at last year’s state meet, many teams would struggle to field a competitive roster the next season. With just one solo qualifier graduated, the bulk of last year’s silver medalist Tigers are back: They’re bringing 20 qualifiers to the fold. For reference, reigning champ Solon holds 16 spots and no other team has more than 14, and taking gold in a number of those events is certainly on the table.

Tied at the top with a 15.46-second qualifying time in the 100-meter hurdles, Elise Coghlan headlines the Tigers’ with the highest initial seeding. She’ll also run solo in the 400-meter hurdles as the seventh seed while Madi James is one slot higher. Coghlan will be gunning for gold in the 4x100 shuttle relay with Haley Nelson, Isabella Smyth and Josi Dufoe as projected silver medalists.

Adding to the potential avalanche on the podium, London Warmuth earned the top slot in the high jump after clearing 5-foot-6 last week. She looks to repeat as the 3A champ, hitting 5-7 last year.

    Boys Golf

ADM is heading back to the state meet this year after winning the district meet in Atlantic on Monday. The Tigers placed fourth at last year’s championships. They’ll return to Veenker Memorial in Ames hoping to climb the ladder on Monday and Tuesday.

The Tigers wrapped up on season already, with the eports team taking silver at state over the weekend in Mario Kart.

    Boys Soccer (14-1)

The regular season came to a close on Friday with the No. 3 Tigers taking a 2-0 win at home against No. 10 Carlisle (9-6). Unfortunately, the one stain on the resume came against conference rival Gilbert which rides into the postseason with a perfect record and the Raccoon River Conference crown.

ADM has rattled off nine wins since that pivotal loss and will next face either Boone or Central Iowa United in the substate semifinals on May 20.

    Girls Soccer (8-7)

With three wins to close out the regular season, capping the series with a 5-1 win over Boone on Tuesday, the Tigers have officially kept their winning season streak alive.

That will be fully determined on Tuesday in the regional semifinals against either Carlisle or Bondurant-Farrar. The Tigers defeated both teams by double digits earlier this year.
