USD 480 Approves Bus Purchases
The USD 480 Board of Education met on Monday evening and approved the quote from ElectroCoat to repair and refinish the lockers at LHS. The Board approved the purchase of a 59 Passenger Bus with lift in the amount of $157,006.00, and approved the purchase of a 77 passenger bus in the amount of $159,102. Both busses will be coming from Midwest Bus Sales. Along those lines the Board approved the hiring of one additional bus driver and one aide position for the Transportation Department.

When someone pulls into Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca and sees the grid for Optima’s Ultimate Street Car series, presented by Advance Auto Parts, it must lead to some head-scratching. The requisite Camaros, Corvettes and Mustangs are all there, but there’s also a Nissan GT-R, a ’55 T-bird, a gaggle of Teslas, a ’71 MG, an Acadian station wagon, a Pontiac Vibe, and even a few pickup trucks and SUVs. It’s hard to believe such a wide assortment of vehicles could compete, but in this series, they find a way. This entire series is about getting out and running your car hard, the way it was designed to be used. There are no show-ponies at these events.
Mein and Hubbard Compete at State
Liberal’s two state golfers played at 6A state just up the road in Garden City on Monday morning and afternoon. Ryan Mein shot a 90 in his last event as a Redskin. Skyler Hubbard carded a 91. Neither qualify for day two in the 6A State Golf Tournament at Buffalo Dunes. Both had a couple of rough holes early and couldn’t come back from it.

Amber Alert cancelled after 15-year-old girl kidnapped from Kansas park in broad daylight found safe
LIBERAL, Kan. (KCTV) - An Amber Alert has been issued for a 15-year-old girl kidnapped from a park in broad daylight in Southwest Kansas. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation says agents were notified by the Liberal Police Department that around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, law enforcement officials were called to Mary Frame Park at 530 S. New York St. with reports of a kidnapping.

At the Senior Awards Assembly on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the following awards and scholarships were presented. The Ag Futures Scholarship was presented by Gabe Baeza from American Implement and Steve Harkness from Western State Bank to Kaylen Langhofer. Rachel Amerin, a representative from Invenergy, presented their scholarship to Kaylen Langhofer. Davida Gomez from Seaboard Foods presented scholarships to Kaylen Langhofer and Emma Stanfield. Dawn Unruh, CEO of Artesian Valley Health Systems, presented a scholarship to Emma Stanfield. Lisa, Batt, Regional Fellowship of Christian Athletes Representative, recognized Kaila Froese as an FCA Outstanding Athlete. Southern Pioneer Electric announced two scholarship winners from Southwestern Heights, Kaylen Langhofer and Allison Sanchez. The Seed Sowers scholarship, which is open to students of family members employed by either Bank of the Plains, Clawson Ranch Partnership, or High Plains Ponderosa Dairy, was presented to Kaylen Langhofer. Kismet United Methodist Church awarded a scholarship to Kaylen Langhofer. The St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Altar Society Scholarship awarded their scholarship based on the following criteria: a student who is an active member of the St Patrick’s Catholic Church, who works to potential, who is a good citizen, and has leadership qualities. The National FFA and Ford Motor Company will be awarding a Built Ford Tough scholarship to Kaylen Langhofer at the Kansas State FFA Convention in Manhattan later this month.
