Pa. native wins Tony for role in musical ‘Merrily We Roll Along’
Lancaster County native Jonathan Groff captured the Tony for best actor in a leading role in a musical Sunday night at the 77th Annual Tony Awards ceremony in New York. Groff, who at 39 has a lengthy resume of theater, film and TV roles, beat out Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne and other actors to win his first Tony for his role in the revival of Stephen Sondheim’s “Merrily We Roll Along.”
