Bernard Wesley Wall 1940-2024
Bernard Wesley Wall was born to Jesta M. (Tingley) Wall and Wesley “Bud” Wall in Yuma, Colorado on October 3rd, 1940. He passed away on April 1st, 2024 at 83 years old. Bernard attended Yuma High School and graduated in 1958. A few years later Bernard met the love of his life, Sandra Gale Anderson. Sandy and Bernard got married on April 4th, 1961 in Yuma Colorado, and were happily married for nearly 63 years. Together they raised 3 sons, Kevin, Scott, and BJ.
Daniel J. Klinzmann 1955-2024
Dan Klinzmann, a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at home on the 10th of April 2024. Dan was born on the 27th of April 1955 in Haxtun, Colorado to Adolf & Florence Klinzmann and was raised on the family dairy farm outside of Yuma, Colorado. As a young man, he attended Red Willow and Yuma High School and graduated with the class of 1973. Growing up on the farm he learned the value of hard work and the love for machine and auto mechanics.
A new era for Yuma City Council
A realigned Yuma City Council was sworn in and seated during the council’s regular meeting last week. Ron Swehla stepped down after a total of 14 years on the council in two different stretches, the last six as mayor. Sworn in to new terms were councilmen Dan Baucke, Zach Diaz and Marc Shay. It is Diaz’s first term. Tim McClung was sworn in as mayor after spending the last two years as a councilman.
Yuma-1 accepting Outlaw images
Yuma School District-1 is accepting Outlaws mascot images through May 10. The district had been working with a firm to create an Outlaws mascot since the new mascot was announced last September. However, district leaders became frustrated with the process. It was decided at the Yuma-1 Board of Education meeting in March to open up submissions to the public. It took several weeks before all the legalities were ironed out.
Colorado resident $7.8 million richer following latest lottery!
WRAY, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado has a new millionaire!. Colorado Lottery announced Thursday that someone in the tiny town of Wray won millions in the latest lottery. “Some Lottery players think no one outside of Denver and the Front Range wins the Lottery. Well, as of last night, someone in Wray ... is a lot richer,” Colorado Lottery said.
Outlaws have opportunities coming up
Yuma High School’s baseball team needs to stay on the correct side of the ledger to maintain a chance of possibly hosting a Class 2A regional next month. The Outlaws are 6-4 heading into Friday’s rescheduled game at Akron, followed by a home game Saturday against rival Wray. They then play two at Wiggins on Tuesday, April 30. They were supposed to play two at Akron this past Saturday, but the snowy conditions caused its cancellation. (It was rescheduled to just one game Friday.)
Barb Leona Powell 1940-2024
Barbara Leona Powell passed away March 31, 2024, at the Washington County Nursing Home in Akron, Colorado. She was 84 years old. Barbara was born on March 11, 1940, in Yuma, Colorado to Harold and Gertrude (Hodgkins) Aagesen. She was the third of four children. Barbara attended Pleasant Hill School until the 7th grade. Then she attended the Red Willow School where she graduated from the 8th grade. She helped her dad do custom farming and rode horses in the Fair (barrel racing).

Primary/preprimary education tuition slots was an issue dealt with by the Yuma School District-1 Board of Directors during its regular monthly meeting, Monday night at the District Office. Board president John Deering and fellow board members Terri Cooper, Heath Roundtree and Tyson Brown were in attendance. Lindsey Galles was absent.

So many of you asked, and we heard you loud and clear – summer Cruise Nights are making a return next month. In 2020, the News-Reporter began organizing Cruise Nights as a way to interact safely and socially distanced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses and organizations around Akron offered a “curbside” special, while many of the establishments were closed to dine-in patrons.
