Proposed retail in south Mesquite slated to go before council on May 20
On May 20, the Mesquite City Council is set to vote on a proposed land use change from agricultural to retail on recently annexed land. At an April 22 planning and zoning meeting, Planner John Cervantes presented a proposal to rezone a 1.5-acre plot of land to hold an Auto Zone. The site was originally zoned to hold a flooring store before it was annexed in 2010. The land falls in the Trinity Point planning area, which the city aims to develop as a business corridor with a variety of residential opportunities and outdoor spaces that interconnect. With the proximity to potential future residential development, the plot is set to be a general retail area, according to Cervantes.
