Thursday marks 6 years since a Maine corporal was killed in the line of duty. On April 25, 2018, Somerset County Sheriff's Corporal Eugene Cole was shot and killed in Norridgewock. His killer is serving a life sentence. April 25 is now known as "Corporal Eugene Cole Day" in Norridgewock.
Dog shot, buried by owner, prompting hours-long standoff in central Maine
NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine — The Somerset County Sheriff's Office says a man is being held in county jail on several charges after an hours-long standoff in Norridgewock on Monday. Witnesses reportedly called law enforcement to Red Barn Road just before 9 a.m. for an armed man "screaming and hollering" outside his home. The man, later determined to be 32-year-old Nicholas Eckert, was also allegedly threatening anyone who called the police.
