Fraud protection in Manistee County
A new program in Manistee County is being rolled out to give you better protection from fraud. It’s called the Property Fraud Alert Service. The way it works is any time the Manistee County Deeds Office records a document-the owner of the property receives a text. They then get to decide if they authorized that recording.

Teen boy dies in dirt bike accident in Lake County
LAKE COUNTY – Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies say a 16-year-old teen boy died May 17 after a dirt bike accident. Deputies say first responders were called out to a field near 76th Street and USFS 6250 in Pleasant Plains Township. The 16-year-old was ejected from his dirt bike. Bystanders attempted CPR before authorities came, but the teen was unconscious and not breathing.
Fire destroys Free Soil Township barn
FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed a barn at 8858 N. Stephens Road Thursday morning. Emergency units were dispatched to the scene at 8:32 a.m. The barn was fully engulfed in flames and mostly destroyed when the first fire department unit arrived. However, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading to other nearby structures.

4 people sent to the hospital in Wexford Co. crash involving multiple vehicles
WEXFORD COUNTY – The Wexford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash that happened on May 21 involving three vehicles. Deputies say around 3:19 in the afternoon, they were dispatched to a crash on northbound US-131, just north of old N US-131. An SUV with a 40-year-old Mesick woman and her 17- and 15-year-old sons was traveling northbound on N US 131, and was slowed down due to road construction. A commercial vehicle, driven by a 53-year-old Lake City man, approached the line of slow moving traffic, but failed to slow down. That vehicle rear ended the SUV, continued down the road for a short distance, then hit another car.
