Driver dies after pickup truck crashes into commercial building in Horseheads
One person is dead after a pickup truck crashed into an unoccupied commercial building early Wednesday morning in the Town of Horseheads. Around 5:35 a.m., a 2014 Chevrolet pickup operated by Michael W. Vargo, 61, of Vargo Road in Horseheads, was southbound on Old Ithaca Road near the East Street roundabout, when the vehicle left the east shoulder, traveled through a gravel parking lot and crashed into the Interstate Batteries building at 110 Old Ithaca Road, according to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, which responded to the scene.

Tioga County Sheriff’s Report
On May 27, 2024, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office arrested Andrew E. Mooney, age 21, of Owego, N.Y., for the charge of Harassment in the 1st Degree. This charge resulted from an investigation into a report of harassment. During the investigation, it was found that Mooney engaged in a course of conduct that placed another person in fear of physical injury. Mooney was arraigned before Justice Schaffer at CAP Court. Mooney was released on his own recognizance and is to appear at the Town of Owego Court in front of Justice Bennett at a later date.

(Chemung, NY) Another gamble. Another win. Track promoter Ray Hodge rolled the dice and went for it on a very iffy Friday night. While a slight shower did delay the action for a few minutes, the whole show is now in the history books. Winners included TJ Potrzebowski (Buckley’s Automotive Modifieds), Nick Robinson (Blauvelt Funeral Home Super Stocks), Anthony Gullo (Marion Decker Agency Hobby Stocks), Greg Moldt (Gene’s Automotive 4 Cylinders), and Leevi Sharpsteen (JRC Cleaning Bandoleros).
Foggy start, partly sunny to follow
Patchy fog will start off Wednesday with fair skies to follow. Dry and warm conditions are expected with highs in the upper-70s. Mostly clear skies overnight and temperatures will be in the lower-50s. Similar conditions are expected Thursday with highs in the mid to upper-80s under partly sunny skies. A cold front will bring showers late Thursday night into Friday. The showers will taper off Friday afternoon/evening. Highs will end out the week around 80, but cooler conditions are expected Saturday with temperatures in the upper-70s. Dry conditions and mostly sunny skies are likely Saturday followed by partly sunny skies Sunday. Temperatures heat up early next week with highs in the low to mid-90s. Both days will be partly sunny and on the humid side. We could see an isolated shower or thunderstorm possible, but most should remain dry.
