Northside-Pinetown softball battles East Wilkes to the end, finishes as state runner up
DURHAM, N.C. (WITN) - The Northside-Pinetown softball team dropped a pair of games to East Wilkes on Saturday to finish as state 1A runner-up. East Wilkes had 5 unanswered runs in game two. But the Panthers battled back to make it a 7-5 game thanks to a 3-run homer from Megan Hopkins. That’s as close as they got as East Wilkes won game two 7-5 to even the series after the Panthers won Friday.
Fiddlers convention tuning up

Church building suffers 'considerable damage' following early morning fire
TOBACCOVILLE, N.C. — Forsyth County fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a church fellowship hall Thursday morning. According to a release, the Old Richmond Fire Department was called to the area of Ridge Road in Tobaccoville just before 5 a.m. Upon their arrival, they found a one-story building with heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof. Several other area fire crews came to assist and were able to get the flames under control after approximately 30 minutes. A neighbor tells WXII she could feel the heat from the fire as soon as she opened her front door.
