Derby Forecast: Rain could dampen the track a few days this week
It will feel very summer-like at Churchill Downs this week with temperatures soaring above our average into the 70s and 80s. There will also be plenty of dry days to enjoy live racing this week! After rain showers move out Tuesday morning, the sunshine will return by the afternoon. It will be a little cooler back into the 70s for 502’sDay.
New Kroger planned in southeast Louisville
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Shea Van Hoy) — The Kroger Co. looks to be adding another new location on Beulah Church Road in Louisville,according to Louisville Business First. The Cincinnati-based grocer, the largest traditional supermarket operator in America and one of Greater Louisville's largest employers, recently applied for a variance with Louisville Metro Government related to the project at 6803 Beulah Church Road.
April showers and storms to close out the month
It was a delightful start to Derby week across Central and Eastern Kentucky on Monday with sunshine, a nice southwest breeze and afternoon highs climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s. This was a continuation of what was a very delight final weekend of April but it looks like we’ll have a minor speed bump with our dry weather pattern and summer-like temperatures as we close out the month.
Louisville native Danny Gargan has two shots to win the Kentucky Derby
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Danny Gargan grew up just outside the gates of Churchill Downs on First Street and Evelyn Avenue. A lifelong racetracker, the 52-year-old Gargan started hot walking horses when he was a youngster, his father was a jockey who had won the Kentucky Oaks before he passed away when the younger Gargan was four. Gargan attended Central High School and during the summers lived in Chicago while working at Arlington Racecourse.
Starting salary for teachers in Greater Clark County Schools bumped up to $50,000
JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — Teachers in the Greater Clark County Schools district in southern Indiana will make at least $50,000 a year beginning with the 2024-25 school year. The district announced Monday a $2,000 base salary increase for all teachers, which is in addition to the $2,500 increase that was already collectively bargained for next school year. This will increase starting pay in the district to $50,000 annually.
