Incumbents Face Challengers in Several Political Races
SWEETWATER COUNTY – Two days into the campaign filing season and contests for local and state offices have already developed. According to information on the Sweetwater County Clerk’s website, Green River City Council member George Jost faces a challenge from Jessica Maser for his Ward II seat on the Council. Sherry Bushman, the current Council member representing Ward I, is unopposed so far in her re-election bid. No one has filed for the Ward III Council seat in Green River. Additionally, the clerk’s office has not received filings from Rock Springs, Wamsutter, Superior and Granger candidates seeking election to the Councils in those locations.
Rock Springs Man Arrested After Allegedly Punching Officer
ROCK SPRINGS – A Rock Springs man faces 10 years in prison after allegedly punching a police officer in the face. Troy Lewis Froman, 33, made an initial appearance to a felony charge of interference with a peace officer Wednesday afternoon. He also faces misdemeanor interference with a peace officer and breach of peace charges. He is being held at the Sweetwater County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash or surety bond. The felony charge carries a maximum possible penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine, while the misdemeanor interference charge has a penalty of up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. The breach of peace charge has a maximum penalty of up to six months in jail and a $750 fine.

Third ‘Plein Air’ Competition Announced
ROCK SPRINGS – The Green River Arts Council and Community Fine Arts Center seeks competitors for the third Sweetwater County plein air competition. The term plein air comes from the French phrase “en plein air,” meaning out of doors. The term refers to painting finished artwork outdoors. Residents participating in the competition will paint views of the Scotts Bottom Nature Area in Green River June 22.
