Mellon Foundation funds SDSU post-carceral program
South Dakota State University (SDSU) has announced a three-year, $150,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for its post-carceral program. Funded by Mellon’s Higher Education in Prison Program, the post-carceral program will be organized around humanities and social science courses that fulfill general education requirements. To that end, the program will work to provide post-carceral students with highly affordable, for-credit, foundational college-level courses for post-carceral students; student success support programming specifically designed to meet their overall “in-course” learning needs; and academic and student success resources for retention and progression toward degree and credential completion. Courses will be augmented with student success services specifically designed to support previously incarcerated students and their needs.

3 Brookings businesses fail alcohol checks
BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO) – Three Brookings businesses served underage buyers alcohol during a police compliance check on Thursday, April 25. According to the Brookings Police Department, 10 businesses were checked for off-sale and on-sale liquor/malt beverage licensees with the city of Brookings. The three failed businesses were Deuces Casino, La Cantina and Guadalajara, all with locations along 6th Street.
