Celebrate Smokey Bear's 80th birthday in Capitan May 3
Smokey Bear Days return to Capitan to celebrate Smokey's 80th birthday. The occasion is only celebrated every five years. Entry for Smokey Bear Days cost $2 for ages 13 and up and $1 for kids from 7 to 12 years old. Children 6 and under are free. The event will take place throughout Smokey Bear Boulevard and the Smokey Bear Historical Park.
Ruidoso Manager Ron Sena agrees to apology for ethics violation
On April 9 the New Mexico Ethics Commission announced it entered an agreement with Village of Ruidoso Manager Ron Sena after he reportedly breached state ethics laws. Sena allegedly texted fellow employees between March 8 and March 12 to support Ruidoso Mayor Lynn Crawford's bid for election to the State Senate, and used a village vehicle to distribute flyers promoting the campaign, according to a news release from the State Ethics Commission.

RUIDOSO, N.M. — A brush fire started at the Village of Ruidoso on Tuesday, April 16. The village reported it around 5:40 p.m. A Ruidoso official wrote an update on Tuesday evening saying the fire crews were able to stop the flames. The fire was reported to be .25 acres, according to the Village of Ruidoso.
