CHEBOYGAN — Community requests for a dog park in Cheboygan have prompted a group of volunteers to conduct talks with city and county officials to discuss the feasibility of such a park. Rogers approves sale of 1.31 acres of city-owned property
The Rogers City Council has approved a $550,000 purchase agreement for the sale of 1.31 acres of city-owned property at 136th Avenue and Rogers Drive to Java Companies. A memo to the council from Rogers Community Development Director Brett Angell said the proposed buyer plans to develop a multi-tenant commercial building that would feature a quick service restaurant, coffee shop with a drive-thru, and one additional office-related tenant. The property, originally acquired via TIF1 (tax increment financing) funds in 2006, currently is undeveloped and maintained by the city, according to the memo. The site is bounded by Maynard’s restaurant on the west, a bank and multi-tenant commercial building on the north, a multi-tenant commercial building and movie theater on the east, and a drainage pond on the south.

This afternoon quite an array of moonshine cases were before Judge King, after a lull of several weeks. The first to appear in court was Mrs. Lillian Hanson, of 223 South B street, who was charged in the complaint by Sheriff Slate with the sale of intoxicants in the form of moonshine whiskey. This she denied and was told that she could waive examination or demand a hearing, to learn the evidence against her. She asked the court to fix the time and the same was placed as Monday, April 28. Onaway man tells state police he did something wrong; troopers investigate and arrest him
CHEBOYGAN COUNTY — Michigan State Police on Friday said that a 47-year-old has been arrested on criminal sexual conduct charges after turning himself in. The Michigan State Police Gaylord Post said Oscar Bert Hilliker, of Onaway, was charged. The investigation began earlier in April when Hilliker came to the MSP Gaylord Post saying he needed to speak with a trooper. Hilliker believed he may have said and done something wrong, troopers said. He then told the trooper what he had done with a minor and that he also had provided them with marijuana, troopers said.
