Tuesday threat at Ellinwood school deemed not credible
Many Ellinwood Middle and High School students were absent from class Wednesday following alleged threats made by a classmate on Tuesday. USD 355 Superintendent Ben Jacobs could not comment specifically on the matter but did release a message to parents and the public about the matter. The message was also posted on the Ellinwood Public Schools Facebook page where it elicited more than 100 comments.
Great Bend PD: False report prompts police response, area lockdown
GREAT BEND, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: The Great Bend Police Department confirmed a false call led to a heavy response that prompted an area lockdown, impacting Lincoln Elementary School. A little after 4 p.m., the school reported that the “all-clear” was given and students were being dismissed. That lockdown lasted less than an hour.

ATV crash kills one in Barton County
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Barton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an ATV crash that killed a 37-year-old great Bend on Saturday. The crash happened at around 5 p.m. near the diversion dam on the Arkansas River just south of Dundee. When deputies arrived, they found 37-year-old Wilbert Sanko with serious head injuries.

Resurfacing project planned on US 281 in Russell Co.
The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to begin work soon on resurfacing projects along K-255 in Ellis County and U.S. 281 in Russell County. The K-255 project will be completed first, starting on April 23. Project work includes a mill and overlay on the entirety of the roadway from the north city limits of Victoria to I-70. Upon completion of K-255, crews will resurface 12 miles of U.S. 281 in Russell County, starting near the I-70 interchange at Russell and ending at the Barton County line.
Couple able to 'Brew with a Brewmaster' in Great Bend
In the spirit of community and charity, Dry Lake Brewing stepped up at the 18th Annual Sunflower Diversified Services Charity Gala. Great Bend preschool getting more colorful as it nears completion
Following a luncheon at Lincoln Elementary School Thursday, members of the USD 428 Board of Education took a tour of the new Little Panthers Preschool and District Education Center at 1809 24th Street.
